Japan Moves Into 22nd Century, Has Holographic Concerts
This was sent in by reader Kasinator, who maintains that I like to feature things that “seem like the future is here” from time to time. Well, this certainly qualifies as what you’re about to see is the first ever concert for a hologram which happened in, where else, Japan. The place was sold out for Miku, the virtual woman that surely many in the crowd deem hotter than an actual performer because well, it’s Japan.
I’m still trying to work out this tech, but from what I can tell, there’s a giant see thru-ish piece of glass (or something) that spans the entire stage, and Miku is projected onto it and she can dance back and forth and appear as though she’s somewhat three dimensional. Her voice is completely computer generated as well, sampling from a human or two, but mostly completely synthesized. All around it’s a pretty wicked, and bizarre, set up.
I highly suggest you click through to watch this thing in 1080p, and check out a few of the other videos including one where she does a duet with what appears to be the lead in a Final Fantasy game.
