ANOTHER SOFTWARE FOR VIDEO
It is an envelope for which there can be many audio, video and subtitles streams, allowing the user to store a complete movie or CD in a single file.Matroska FAQ
Listed below are the most common questions asked about Matroska.
Q: What is matroska? I dont understand what a 'container format' is at all, is it a player, or a audio/video compression format ?
A: Whenever you play a movie it includes at least one video stream and one audio stream. Since its not practicle to have 2 files to play Audio/Video, you pack both into a single file by using a so-called container format file. This container and the software coming with it take care of a lot of important functions, like the correct timing of the audio and video playback when the file is played ( opened ). ZIP or RAR could be a perfect container to pack one or more audio/video streams together into one single file for distribution, but WinZIP certainly wouldnt care about the correct timing of the these streams on playback ... Known containers are the good old AVI, or the MPEG container ( .mpg , .mpeg ), Quicktime ( .mov ), Realmedia ( .rm ), MP4 ( .mp4 ), etc.
Matroska is an opensource alternative to all of them, and is able to offer a lot of features that others dont have have.
Q: What are the advantages of matroska compared to AVI ?
A: The AVI container was originally introduced by Microsoft in the early 90s, and was designed as a very flexible A/V container format for the video and audio compression formats of those days. It is necessary to understand that AVI is only one ( but important ) part of a complete multimedia framework called 'Video For Windows' ( VfW ), offering programmers not only a container but also a complete set of API commands to be able to program their own video and audio codecs, using either the VfW or the ACM interface ( this was back from the days when Microsoft was still dedicated to sell their operating systems to people, instead of multimedia solutions as they are trying to do today with WMV, so they had to make their OS attractive to other programmers ).
Unfortunately this VfW framework cannot support many of the more advanced features that modern audio and video compression formats will offer, such as Variable Bitrate audio encoding ( VBR ), or Variable Framerate video encoding ( VFR ). Although AVI was extended with an additional standard called 'Open DML AVI' in the mid/late 90s, overcoming most of its very annoying limitations like the 2 GB file size limit, there is still no proper and spec compliant way to support modern compression formats like the excellent, opensource Ogg Vorbis audio compression format.
Matroska has overcome all those limitations and can support all known audio and video compression formats by design. To make sure it will also be capable of coping with the future standards it is based on a very flexible underlying framework called EBML, allowing to add more functionalities to the container format without breaking backwards compatibility with older softwares and files.
Q: What file extensions does Matroska use?
A: We currently have 3 different extensions specified :
- .mkv : Used for Video files, as well those containing audio ( movies ) or video only
- .mka : Used for audio only files, can contain any supported audio compresion format, such as MP2, MP3, Vorbis, AAC, AC3, DTS, or PCM
- .mks :Used for Subtitles that an 'elementary' matroska stream
Q: How can i create Matroska files ?
A: You can reencode an existing source with FFmpeg or the more user friendly Handbrake. You can also 'transmux' an existing AVI, MP4 or TS file. This option is a lossless process, all the audio and video data in the source file will be read from it, and packed into a matroska file in a spec compliant way, but basically stay unaltered to avoid any degradation of quality. There are currently 2 different tools to do this ( look here for the announcement of their latest versions ), but the list keeps on growing.
Moritz Bunku's mkvmerger is a command line based matroska muxer that can be run on Windows, Linux and OS X. It also does accept AVI and OGM on its input, as well as AC3, AAC, Vorbis, DTS, MP3, MP2 and PCM audio.
In VirtuldubMod ( starting from 1.5.1.1a ) all you have to do is to open your AVI or OGM file, set 'video' to 'direct stream copy', goto 'file' 'save as ...' and select '.mkv' from the file type dropdown list and rename it. Of course, this doesnt make much sense if you dont have any plans to add something to the file that AVI or OGM cannot support, like adding another audio track in an unsupported audio compression format.
From VirtualdubMod you can also directly encode into .mkv files from any source that it can open, and using every available VfW and ACM codecs, even in 2 pass mode.
Q: How can i play Matroska files on my PC ?
A: On the download page you will always find the link to the very latest DirectShow parser filter, that way you will be able to play your .mkv files on a DirectShow based player such as Windows Mediaplayer. For Linux PCs, as well as for MacOSX and the X-Box emulation you have to get the newest version of VLC or mplayer. On OS X you can also install Perian which will add Matroska support in Quicktime.
Q: What is the advantage of using the .mka file instead of the original audio formats, like mp2, mp3 etc?
A: In many cases there is not a reason to store audio only files in MKA. If you have an audio file with a single track, or "song", that you don't intend to edit.
Here are some reasons that placing audio in MKA is useful:
1. The tags will be the same no matter what audio format you use. That means that if you write a program to read back tags, it only has to read them from one type of tagging system, no matter what type of audio is being used.
2. All tracks to a CD can be in a single file. You have the option of dividing the tracks into seperate Tracks, or seperate Chapters. You could make your own compilation in a single file, even using different audio formats, such as MP3 and Vorbis.
3. If you write a program to read audio of of MKA, then you don't need to understand how the framing works in the different formats because it is already done for you in Matroska.
4. It is easy to delete portions of the audio without reencoding because you just throw away those blocks. You don't even have to be able to play that format back, you could edit by just knowing timecodes.
5. Detecting differences between two audio streams would be easy because you could store both in a single file, start playback, and then just switch between tracks.
6. If you intend to combine the audio with video, then having is in MKA means you can merge it with an MKV, even if the application doesn't support the audio type.
7. In the case of MP3, MP2 AC3 and even some AAC, using "compressed headers" the MKA file may even be smaller than the original "raw" file, without losing any bit of information.
Q: Will my .mkv files be compatible with future Matroska software if i will use current tools to mux my files?
A: The files being created now are spec compliant.
Q: Will there be a perfomance hit for storing audio/video in Matroska?
A: No, even though its more complex to read/write MKV than it is AVI you can't tell a difference when reading back a file from AVI or MKV on today's processors, even on smartphones ( see CorePlayer ).
Q: What makes Matroska better (worse?) than an ogg media container (.ogm)?
A: It's less a matter of better/worse, and more a matter of different. This is a little complex but we will try to explain.
First Ogg is not the same thing as Ogm. Ogg is an RFC spec now, and is very useful for what it was designed for, streaming over lossy links, and Ogm is an implementation of Ogg placing other 'things' inside.
So, we have:
Ogg
1. Designed for "lossy"streaming (over UDP).
2. Designed to hold Vorbis and other Xiph-supported audio & video codecs.
3. Well documented for above two purposes.
Ogm
1. Implementation of Ogg to hold video, other audio codecs, and a type of subtitle.
2. Implements Chapter support.
Matroska
1. Designed to hold any type of codec. (Audio, Video, Subtitle, etc)
2. Designed for editability.
3. Purposely flexible design.

Method to Easily Search for Correct Subtitle that Sync with AVI Movie
using this program to get the subtitle or you can search by google.
after get the srt file remember :
1.Placed srt file in the same folder as my AVI movie file and same name but different extension.
example :
c:/files/junior.avi
c:/files/junior.srt
2. play your video.. if you can’t see subtitles you must get the codec.
if these software don’t find the right subs for your AVI or if you just happen to have the only subtitles there is on the net for this unique and hard to find indie movie,

ALL YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT TORRENT ?? ( PART I )
Usually this refers to the small metadata file you receive from the web server (the one that ends in .torrent.) Metadata here means that the file contains information about the data you want to download, not the data itself. This is what is sent to your computer when you click on a download link on a website. You can also save the torrent file to your local system, and then click on it to open the BitTorrent download. This is useful if you want to be able to re-open the torrent later on without having to find the link again.
In some uses, it can also refer to everything associated with a certain file available with BitTorrent. For example, someone might say “I downloaded that torrent” or “that server has a lot of good torrents”, meaning there are lots of good files available via BitTorrent on that server.
Peer
A peer is another computer on the internet that you connect to and transfer data. Some people also refer to peers as leeches, to distinguish them from those generous folks who have completed their download and continue to leave the client running and act as a seed.
Seed
A computer that has a complete copy of a certain torrent. Once your client finishes downloading, it will remain open until you click the Finish button (or otherwise close it.) This is known as being a seed or seeding. You can also start a BT client with a complete file, and once BT has checked the file it will connect and seed the file to others. Generally, it’s considered good manners to continue seeding a file after you have finished downloading, to help out others. Also, when a new torrent is posted to a tracker, someone must seed it in order for it to be available to others. Remember, the tracker doesn’t know anything of the actual contents of a file, so it’s important to follow through and seed a file if you upload the torrent to a tracker.
Reseed
When there are zero seeds for a given torrent (and not enough peers to have a distributed copy), then eventually all the peers will get stuck with an incomplete file, since no one in the swarm has the missing pieces. When this happens, someone with a complete file (a seed) must connect to the swarm so that those missing pieces can be transferred. This is called reseeding. Usually a request for a reseed comes with an implicit promise that the requester will leave his or her client open for some time period after finishing (to add longevity to the torrent) in return for the kind soul reseeding the file.
Swarm
The group of machines that are collectively connected for a particular file. For example, if you start a BitTorrent client and it tells you that you’re connected to 10 peers and 3 seeds, then the swarm consists of you and those 13 other people.
Tracker
A server on the Internet that acts to coordinate the action of BitTorrent clients. When you open a torrent, your machine contacts the tracker and asks for a list of peers to contact. Periodically throughout the transfer, your machine will check in with the tracker, telling it how much you’ve downloaded and uploaded, how much you have left before finishing, and the state you’re in (starting, finished download, stopping.) If a tracker is down and you try to open a torrent, you will be unable to connect. If a tracker goes down during a torrent (i.e., you have already connected at some point and are already talking to peers), you will be able to continue transferring with those peers, but no new peers will be able to contact you. Often tracker errors are temporary, so the best thing to do is just wait and leave the client open to continue trying.

Share-Ratio
If you are using the experimental client with the stats-patch, you will see a share rating displayed on the GUI panel. This is simply the ratio of your amount uploaded divided by your amount downloaded. The amounts used are for the current session only, not over the history of the file. If you achieve a share ratio of 1.0, that would mean you’ve uploaded as much as you’ve downloaded. The higher the number, the more you have contributed. If you see a share ratio of “oo”, this means infinity, which will happen if you open a BT client with a complete file (i.e., you seed the file.) In this case you download nothing since you have the full file, and so anything you send will cause the ratio to reach infinity. Note: The share rating is just a number that is displayed for your convenience. It does not directly affect any aspect of the client at all. In general, out of courtesy to others you should strive to keep this ratio as high as possible, of course.
Distributed Copies
In some versions of the client, you will see the text “Connected to n seeds; also seeing n.nnn distributed copies.” A seed is a machine with the complete file. However, the swarm can collectively have a complete copy (or copies) of the file, and that is what this is telling you. Referring again to the “people at a table” analogy, consider the case where the book has 10 pages, and person A has pp.1-5 and B has pp.6-10. Collectively, A and B have a complete copy of the book, even though no one person has the whole thing. In other words, even if there are no seeds, as long as there is at least one distributed copy of the file everyone can eventually get a complete file. Choked
This is a term used in the description of the BitTorrent protocol. It refers to the state of an uploader, i.e. the thread that sends data to another peer. When a connection is choked, it means that the transmitter doesn’t currently want to send anything on that link. A BT client signals that it’s choked to other clients for a number of reasons, but the most common is that by default a client will only maintain –max_uploads active simultaneous uploads, the rest will be marked choked. (The default value is 4 and this is the same setting that experimental client GUI lets you adjust.) A connection can also be choked for other reasons, for example a peer downloading from a seed will mark his connection as choked since the seed is not interested in receiving anything. Note that since each connection is bidirectional and symmetrical, there are two choked flags for each connection, one for each Tx endpoint.

After you download and install the program, the first step in downloading is to locate or acquire a.torrent file. A.torrent file contains the information about the torrent, such as its size and the location of the tracker. You can use a .torrent file using its URI or you can acquire it via the Web, an email attachment, or other means. The next step is for the PROGRAM to connect to the tracker to learn the locations of other clients that it can download the torrent from.Once you have downloaded a torrent, it is good manners to allow the program to continue to run so other clients can upload at least as much information as you have downloaded.
This is the program that will do the actual downloading for you. There are many to choose from and each has their own positives and negatives, so it’s up to you decide which best suits your needs and PC capabilities.

In some uses, it can also refer to everything associated with a certain file available with BitTorrent. For example, someone might say “I downloaded that torrent” or “that server has a lot of good torrents”, meaning there are lots of good files available via BitTorrent on that server.
Peer
A peer is another computer on the internet that you connect to and transfer data. Some people also refer to peers as leeches, to distinguish them from those generous folks who have completed their download and continue to leave the client running and act as a seed.
Seed
A computer that has a complete copy of a certain torrent. Once your client finishes downloading, it will remain open until you click the Finish button (or otherwise close it.) This is known as being a seed or seeding. You can also start a BT client with a complete file, and once BT has checked the file it will connect and seed the file to others. Generally, it’s considered good manners to continue seeding a file after you have finished downloading, to help out others. Also, when a new torrent is posted to a tracker, someone must seed it in order for it to be available to others. Remember, the tracker doesn’t know anything of the actual contents of a file, so it’s important to follow through and seed a file if you upload the torrent to a tracker.
Reseed
When there are zero seeds for a given torrent (and not enough peers to have a distributed copy), then eventually all the peers will get stuck with an incomplete file, since no one in the swarm has the missing pieces. When this happens, someone with a complete file (a seed) must connect to the swarm so that those missing pieces can be transferred. This is called reseeding. Usually a request for a reseed comes with an implicit promise that the requester will leave his or her client open for some time period after finishing (to add longevity to the torrent) in return for the kind soul reseeding the file.
Swarm
The group of machines that are collectively connected for a particular file. For example, if you start a BitTorrent client and it tells you that you’re connected to 10 peers and 3 seeds, then the swarm consists of you and those 13 other people.
Tracker
A server on the Internet that acts to coordinate the action of BitTorrent clients. When you open a torrent, your machine contacts the tracker and asks for a list of peers to contact. Periodically throughout the transfer, your machine will check in with the tracker, telling it how much you’ve downloaded and uploaded, how much you have left before finishing, and the state you’re in (starting, finished download, stopping.) If a tracker is down and you try to open a torrent, you will be unable to connect. If a tracker goes down during a torrent (i.e., you have already connected at some point and are already talking to peers), you will be able to continue transferring with those peers, but no new peers will be able to contact you. Often tracker errors are temporary, so the best thing to do is just wait and leave the client open to continue trying.

Share-Ratio
If you are using the experimental client with the stats-patch, you will see a share rating displayed on the GUI panel. This is simply the ratio of your amount uploaded divided by your amount downloaded. The amounts used are for the current session only, not over the history of the file. If you achieve a share ratio of 1.0, that would mean you’ve uploaded as much as you’ve downloaded. The higher the number, the more you have contributed. If you see a share ratio of “oo”, this means infinity, which will happen if you open a BT client with a complete file (i.e., you seed the file.) In this case you download nothing since you have the full file, and so anything you send will cause the ratio to reach infinity. Note: The share rating is just a number that is displayed for your convenience. It does not directly affect any aspect of the client at all. In general, out of courtesy to others you should strive to keep this ratio as high as possible, of course.
Distributed Copies
In some versions of the client, you will see the text “Connected to n seeds; also seeing n.nnn distributed copies.” A seed is a machine with the complete file. However, the swarm can collectively have a complete copy (or copies) of the file, and that is what this is telling you. Referring again to the “people at a table” analogy, consider the case where the book has 10 pages, and person A has pp.1-5 and B has pp.6-10. Collectively, A and B have a complete copy of the book, even though no one person has the whole thing. In other words, even if there are no seeds, as long as there is at least one distributed copy of the file everyone can eventually get a complete file. Meditate on this, the Zen of BitTorrent, grasshopper.
Choked
This is a term used in the description of the BitTorrent protocol. It refers to the state of an uploader, i.e. the thread that sends data to another peer. When a connection is choked, it means that the transmitter doesn’t currently want to send anything on that link. A BT client signals that it’s choked to other clients for a number of reasons, but the most common is that by default a client will only maintain –max_uploads active simultaneous uploads, the rest will be marked choked. (The default value is 4 and this is the same setting that experimental client GUI lets you adjust.) A connection can also be choked for other reasons, for example a peer downloading from a seed will mark his connection as choked since the seed is not interested in receiving anything. Note that since each connection is bidirectional and symmetrical, there are two choked flags for each connection, one for each Tx endpoint.

Easily Find and Download DivX Subtitles from Various Websites
Subcrawler is a free program, 100% written in Java, that allows you to search for and download subtitles from various web sites Find DVD subtitles
Currently Subcrawler supports searching and downloading subtitles from 7 websites which is listed below. Out of the 7 websites, 2 websites that is podnapisi.NET and subtitlesbox requires you to register in order to search. Registration is FREE. Actually Divxsubtitles also requires registration in order to download subtitle files but I found out that Subcrawler is using a default already included login which is demo@divxsubtitles.net with the password “demo“. Looks like there’s a hidden default password for that site…

If you want SubCrawler to search for subtitles in podnapisi.NET and subtitlesbox, you need to sign up for a free account first. To download subtitles from SubCrawler after searching, right click on the subtitles and select Download. Very simple and straight forward program that does the job.

This way we are able to easily keep the program up to date without visiting the website daily, weekly or monthly to check if there’s a new version to download. By default, SubCrawler checks for latest version on startup. You can disable it at Tools -> Settings. If you want to manually check for update, you can go to Help -> Check for latest version.
To run Subcrawler, you need to have Java installed. If you don’t have it, you can download the Subcrawler package that has JAVA included. Good thing about program written in Java is it can support multiple operating system. Subcrawler is available for Linux users as well!

1.Cara paling sederhana adalah dengan menulis format #(waktu mulai):(waktu selesai) diikuti dengan subtitle di Notepad, lalu save dengan format *.srt. Tapi kalau anda tidak terbiasa, juga bisa tambah repot..
Dengan Subtitle Workshop, kita bisa membuat subtitle dengan mudah dan tersedia dalam berbagai format. Tentu saja, yang perlu disiapkan adalah program itu sendiri. Anda bisa mendownload di sini. Install dan jalankan program ini.
Akan muncul tampilan awal yang sangat minimalis dengan background warna putih. Tekan Ctrl+N atau pilih File > New Subtitle. Kemudian akan muncul sebuah input. Show adalah waktu muncul, Hide adalah waktu menghilang. Anda tidak perlu mengutak-atik duration sama sekali
