How to Make Different Emoticons on Yahoo

Using the Mouse
1.Sign in to Yahoo! instant messenger or email. To sign into Yahoo!, enter the user name and password. Signing up for Yahoo! is required before you can sign into an account.
2. Open an instant message with a friend or create a new email, depending on preference.
3. Create emoticons. There are a couple of ways to accomplish this. If using the Yahoo! instant messenger, once the chat message has been opened, a smiley face will appear just above the box in which you type messages. Click on that smiley face and it will pop up a box of different emoticons to select and use. If using Yahoo! email, there will be a tool bar just above the box where the email text is typed. There will be a smiley face wearing black sunglasses approximately halfway across the tool bar. Click on the smiley face wearing black sunglasses and again, it will show different emoticons that are available to send.

Using Keyboard Command
1. Press the shift key and semicolon key together at the same time to make the colon symbol. After making the colon symbol, press shift and the number zero together at the same time time to make an end parenthesis. When complete, the symbols in the text should appear as ":)"; making a happy face. To make a sad face, follow the same steps but reverse the parenthesis to make a beginning parenthesis on the No. 9 key, so when done the symbol text should appear as ":(".
2. Press the shift key and the No. 5 key at the same time to make a percent sign. Repeat this step twice to make two percent signs in a row. Next press the hyphen or dash key, as some call it, immediately following the percent signs. This will make a special emoticon for a shamrock. When done, the text prompt should appear as "%%-".

3. press the shift and No. 9 key at the same time to create the beginning parenthesis. Next press shift and the No. 5 key to make a percent sign. After this, press the shift and No. 9 key to create an end parenthesis to make the end of the parenthesis. Doing these steps will create a special emoticon, the ying-yang sign. When complete, the text prompt should appear as "(%)".

4. Press the shift and No. 9 key at the same time to make the beginning parenthesis sign. Press the shift and No. 8 key to make an asterisk sign. Next press the shift and zero key to make the end parenthesis. Following these steps will create a star image and the key prompts should appear as "(*)".
