ALL THE MAGNETS
The above is a 0.01mm bin diameter distribution histogram for each brand
216 measurements per set, one set per brand,
micrometer measurement accuracy of +/- 0.001mm.
Average measurement typically represents how well sets of magnets play with other sets. Size variation represents how well a set plays with itself
Cybercube 6mm (5.999mm)diameters. But the spread of measurements was the worst among all brands; standard deviation was +/-0.069mm, meaning 68.2% of the measurements were within +/-0.069mm.
Neocube magnets are supposed to be 3/16th inch (4.763mm), and the set we measured was only a quarter percent oversize at 4.750mm. Geometric variation was better than Buckyball as 5mm, stdev was +/- 0.011mm.
Zen magnets: Average = 5.006mm, stdev = +/- 0.005mm.
Oversize Zen magnets: Average = 5.035mm, stdev = +/- 0.005mm.
Aside from the magnets themselves, the provided storage solution is often a point of contention. Not just to protect, but also to dress.
Cybercube is proud of their paper box, a light plastic mold and styrofoam spacer.
Buckyball sports an orange two part happy-meal-esque plastic case.
Neocube has a thin black velvet sack with a silk screened logo, half the weight of ours.
Oversize Zen magnets will come with the same packaging as standard Zen sets. A thick lavish velvet sack with silk screened text on one side, and an intricately embroidered logo on the other. Also included is a 0.5mm PVC card tool designed by Phil Lewis.
